Sparta Surfing in Crete
This afternoon, the second group of the day headed to the reef with surf instructor Andy. In the morning the waves were perfect for the reef but strong wind during midday brought even bigger and stronger waves. The bigger the wave the stronger the current. And this was a challenge! Coach Andy likes to call those days "This is Sparta - only the strong survive!" We did indeed survive and caught some waves while learning something new. We started with the basics, especially how the currents and the reef circle works. Where to catch a wave and how to be safe in the water. In the second half of the surf lesson things were moved to the inside section, where coach Andy helped our participants catch waves and have a ride. What an adrenalin rush!
