Today was an exciting day at KaloSurf in Crete. It started with a thunderstorm of epic proportions and a tropical downpour. So we took the group that was scheduled for a SUP-Tour first for a good hot coffee at a newly opened café in Kissamos, to wait for the storm to pass by.
And it was worth to wait. The sky cleared up, the sun was shining and the sea was calm and glassy like a lake. Andy took Alex and Hella to the now already infamous goat SUP tour. The paddle tour took them along the coastlines with beautiful bays perfect for snorkeling. They also took trips on land to discover the Cretan "jungle" and caves of all sizes inhabited by goats, they climbed and jumped off cliffs.
The afternoon had another surprise in store: the wind picked up and delivered nice and smooth waves. Everybody w...
Alex and Hella had an early morning guiding session at "Dexameni" surf spot and it felt like the wave machine was on! Surfing an empty surf spot, checking out the stunning view while chilling on the warm water channel of the Cretan sea!
Entering the water, the sun was still hiding behind the green hills of Crete. With the water still warm enough to use our shorties, we jumped in our literally private surfspot, where perfect lefthanders were peeling over the reef, so nice that you want to surf them all. We were privileged to enjoy the waves, the sun, the sea and the beautiful scenery. The first light coming through the mountains illuminated the ocean, giving us a glassy view of the bottom.
Going Big! Today we got a really big swell coming from the south-west and south wind blowing non stop. Everywhere too big but one place! Andy's new surf spot "Dexameni", which means the water tank, had perfect glassy wave lines and light offshore wind! Boom!
There are no tides in Greece, so you can surf all day long without checking any tide schedule, as long as you got the stamina. Today, we were three (!) times in the water: with Kathrin in the morning, Giannis in the afternoon and Johann in the evening. And it was just perfect: Surfing in Crete - Good Times Only!
Peter and Justina, a young couple from Poland, caught their very first waves for the very first time and they loved it! They will definitely come back and keep on surfing! One picture a thousand words.
Meike from Germany joined us on the beach course today being on the right place at the right time. She did great with the take off and then we even got to try paddling out to catch green waves for even longer rides! Lot's of fun under the Cretan sun!
